Hello folks and welcome to another edition of Triple T. We had another big announcement from Apple last week regarding the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad so lets get right down to it.
iPhone OS 4.0
Thursday Apple showed off the iPhone 4.0 software for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The new OS will allow multitasking at last so now you can listen to Pandora while checking your Facebook.
Also in the update is Folders which will allow you to group your apps into an icon on a screen which when selected will open up the apps within that folder to select from. This will save me a lot of finger swiping and I am very happy to see it as well.
If you have multiple email accounts it will also offer a unified inbox meaning you will no longer have to switch between inboxes to read your email although you can still do that if you desire to. Also it will now organize email messages by thread as well. For the enterprise folks, it will also allow multiple Exchange accounts too.
Another added edition is they are bring iBooks to the iPhone and iPod touch. It will allow you to read a book across an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad and will keep track of where you left off even if you were reading it on another device. Similar to Amazon’s WhisperSync on its Kindle device and apps.
Rate on Delete
Also as part of the iPhone 4.0, the option to rate an app when deleting it is being removed. This is a great thing because if you keep an app you really aren’t given an option to rate it but if you delete one chances are you are not a fan of the app which can skew results in the negative.
Griffin Goodies for the iPad
I am a big fan of Griffin Technologies! They are always thinking of cool stuff for tech products and when it comes to the iPad, they did not disappoint. They are offering their own dock as opposed to the one you can buy from Apple, as well as a PowerBlock and a car charger if you are traveling around with the iPad. They also have a nice professional looking case for the iPad as well and a few other types of cases and sleeves.
Apple vs Adobe
One of the controversial aspects of the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK is the prohibition of using Adobe Flash in apps. To me I agree with Apple, Flash tends to be buggy and processor intensive where as HTML5 is a lot better on video content on mobile devices.

Tupelo Tech Talk #40
Hello all and welcome to another edition of Triple T. If you are wondering about a review on the iPad you can find that here. Here is what’s happening this week.
iPhone OS 4.0
Apple will be holding an event on Thursday to announce the release of iPhone OS 4.0. Among the rumored features is the ability for third party app multitasking. Cool, maybe this will mean I can run Pandora or Sirius/XM in the background like I can iTunes. As a reminder, the iPad runs the same OS.
iPad Initial Sales
Apple announced it sold 300,000 iPad units on Saturday. Given the base model goes for $499 that means Apple did $150 Million in sales on Saturday not including accessories for the iPad. That is one heck of a day! What recession? On top of that, users also downloaded 250,000 e-books. I think John C. Dvorak is going to owe Leo Laporte a nice bottle of wine soon.
Netflix for iPad
Also in iPad news, Netflix came out with an app to use on the iPad as well. You can browse the Netflix site and watch streaming content as well.
HP and Dell reduce investment in 10” netbooks
No doubt a response to slow growth and the introduction of the iPad. I recently checked out some netbooks just out of curiosity and to be honest I was not impressed with them. The screen seem so small that you could only run one thing at a time, might as well get an iPad if that is the case and I think a lot of other people thought the same.
MacBook series updates?
Apple Daily, a Taiwanese newspaper is speculating that Apple will release new updates to the MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air product line this month. This makes a lot of sense as Apple is due for a refresh on the laptop line and it is now between the iPad release and the no doubt new iPhone release in June or July.
Well that is going to do it for this weeks Triple T., apologies for the heavy iPad news but next week should bring more of a regular format of tech news. See you next week!

Tuesday Tech Talk #37
Hello folks and welcome to another edition of Tuesday Tech Talk. This week is going to be much more opinion and commentary driven so lets dive right in.
What I don’t like about a netbook
I was at Best Buy and looked at different varieties of netbooks. What a netbook is, is basically a mini laptop confined to browsing the web hence the net part of the name. My opinion after looking at these netbooks (besides the fact they all run Windows) is they remind me of a Sony PSP system. Yes you can play games on a PSP, but if I want the really great graphics, I’m going to pony up the $300 for the PS3. Likewise I’m going to pony up the money for a full service laptop like I use already (MacBook). Which brings me to my next point, I think Apple has the iPad priced right. It is in the same price range as a netbook and it is much lighter and can be held more like a book in addition to placing it on a table or against your thigh if your in a reclined position. Now if Apple can figure out this whole ability to run multiple apps at the same time, then I think they can really eat into the netbook market share.
Wait, did someone say multitasking on the iPhone OS?
Well my-oh-my, what do we have here? Could it be we may see 3rd party apps running in the background in the near future?
The problem with TiVo
I shared the following on my Facebook page so I thought I would share it here as well in relation to TiVo posting yet another loss recently.
TiVo continues to have financial struggles. But the article is right, cable, DirecTV and DISH all have their own DVR's at cheaper prices and they integrate better with your programming. Trust me, over the 5 years I have been in Tupelo I have used the DISH DVR, the Comcast DVR and now the DirecTV DVR.
Google Reader Play
Google has a new way to view blogs sort of. Could play nice on an iPad me thinks.
Cisco unveils the one router to rule them all
Cisco announced a new router meant for service providers, the CRS-3. Cisco claims the CRS-3 has the ability to deliver up digital copies of all movies ever made in about 4 minutes and moreover, it can deliver up video calls to every person in China in the same time frame.
This Week’s iPhone/iPod touch apps
Foursquare - I have started to use this app a lot more lately. It’s a location based social networking site and the more places you visit, the more points you build up. Visit a certain place a number of times and you become mayor of that place. You can then see how you stack up against your friends for the week in points, more places visited...more points.

Tuesday Tech Talk #30
Hello folks well we are one day away from the Apple Special Event and anticipation is building for the Mac Tablet/iSlate/iPad or whatever they are going to call it. So let’s dive right into things.
Tupelo Public Schools goes Mac
Very happy to read this about Tupelo Public Schools goes 1-1 on MacBooks. Basically it will start this year for Seniors at Tupelo High School and expand next year to all students in 6th-12th grade. Also teachers will be getting MacBook Pro’s as well as administrators. Tupelo is the first school district in Mississippi to go 1-1 which once again proves Tupelo is leading Mississippi into the 21st Century of technology.
Mac Tablet roundup
Ok so lets get all the last minute speculation wrapped up here. According to an article in the L.A. Times, a team from the NY Times has been at Cupertino to work with Apple on a NY Times app for a large screen version of it’s iPhone app. In addition to the New York Times, HarperCollins is apparently in negotiations with Apple on providing eBook content on the tablet.
What else at the Event
Rumors of a new iLife 2010 and maybe iPhone OS 4.0 are also in the mix for Wednesday too.

The folks at The Unofficial Apple Weblog had a third installment of what people would like to see in the iPhone 4.0 OS.
Apple and AT&T to end exclusivity?
Another interesting read is this about how Apple may announce the exclusive deal with AT&T is ending with the iPhone. This would allow Apple to make deals with Verizon, T-Mobile, etc. on an iPhone deal in addition to maintaining a deal with AT&T to offer it as well.

Tuesday Tech Talk #15
Ok a couple of days delayed but here is this weeks installment of Triple T (Thursday still starts with T).
iHome iP88
I have found what I want for Christmas! The iHome iP88 has what I am looking for, an alarm clock with the ability to charge my iPhone and iPod overnight and wake up to whatever I want it to music on the iPod, AM/FM or have it on am FM frequency that transmits by SiriusXM radio to.
iPhone OS Update
iPhone OS 3.2.1 is out today. It has some bug fixes to it mostly and also a carrier update from AT&T (5.6).
Here are the fixes as stated by Apple:
This update contains bug fixes and improvements, including the following: - Resolves sporadic issue that may cause iPhone to not wake from sleep - Resolves intermittent issue that may interrupt cellular network services until restart - Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming
AT&T gives the thumbs up to VoIP apps
Finally! Oh but it has to be a 3G network which means since I’m still on EDGE in Tupelo I still can’t use it. Guess we will finally see the Google Voice app in the iTunes Store now.
This Week’s iPhone/iPod touch apps
Ping - Tried this one this week. Basically it’s like IM’ing or SMS without having to worry about logouts. Just setup a quick user account and get in touch with friends. I’ve been talking to my good friend Jeremy on it so far. It’s really cool and basic and as far as I can tell there seems to be no character limit like SMS or Twitter.
Really that is the only app I have tried out new this week. See you next week on another edition of Triple T.

Tuesday Tech Talk #5 Monday Edition
Ok I couldn’t wait until tomorrow to blog so lets get right down to it.
MacBook Pro’s
Updated across the board and the MacBook is now part of the MacBook Pro family. So if there is a Pro version does that mean the rumored netbook will be the new MacBook?
Snow LeopardMore details released today on that. Exchange support for iCal, Mail, and Address Book. Redesigned QuickTime and a ton of other stuff. Bottom line if your a Leopard user it’s only going to set you back $29 on the upgrade ($49 for family pack). Oh yeah, and it’s going to beat out Windows 7 (lame name btw) by a month!

Lot of cool stuff coming out 6/17. Check more details here. Cool thing that stood out, tethering...unless your in the US with AT&T (have I mentioned how much I think AT&T sucks?)
iPhone 3G S
2 models 16 and 32 GB ($199 & $299 US) June 19th and it shoots video now with the updated 3 MP camera. Yeah it’s not digital but who cares if you see something happen that is noteworthy, you can capture it and upload it to YouTube right from your phone. Also MMS finally...unless your in the US with AT&T in which case end of August or September (have I mentioned how much I...oh...never mind). All that being said being that I have a first generation iPhone this is a worthy upgrade for me even when AT&T’s shortcomings.
Final thoughts
Apple would be better served if they ditch their exclusivity deal with the blue stripped Death Star. I have a brother-in-law that loves everything about the iPhone BUT the carrier. He is a loyal Sprint customer because of their international coverage. AT&T maybe great for domestic coverage but so is Southwest Airlines but you can’t fly on Southwest to Rome! This is America, we used to be known for a competitive marketplace. Apple would sell a gigaton more of iPhones if they had agreements with AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, etc. AT&T, you need to learn how to play nice in the sandbox!
