Tuesday Tech Talk #26

Hello folks, I hope you all had a Merry Christmas as we wait for the New Year. So let’s see what is happening this week in the tech world.

3D Broadcasts

We may be getting closer to seeing 3D HD in our living rooms. With HDMI 1.4 spec getting refreshed and DirecTV launching a new satellite capable of 200 HD channels and 1500 local HD channels. Exciting times ahead in the TV world!

The Apple Slate

Rumors of the “iSlate” continue to ramp up with a possible late January announcement. Even sales expectations are starting to come out speculating the iSlate could be a Kindle Killer and be priced around $600. If this thing is like a super-sized iPod touch then I can’t wait to get my hands on one.

New Flight Rules

With the recent attempted terrorist attack on a Northwest plane, the alert level for flying has been elevated to Orange meaning stricter rules in place specifically for international flights. If you do fly international you may want to see what the new guidelines are as it does limit laptop time now.

3G in Tupelo!

Finally today I wanted to talk about how there is finally 3G from AT&T in Tupelo as of last Tuesday. The speeds are much improved although not as fast as other 3G areas in the state but still better then EDGE. Below is the initial speed test I did at home.

I am averaging anywhere between 680-960 download and 200-230 upload. You can find the free app for measuring your speed here. Now if Comcast goes out I will still have a pretty good speedy connection on 3G on the iPhone, now if only AT&T will do tethering so I can use my MacBook with it.

Well that is all for this weeks Triple T. Sorry no app reviews this week but I look to have some ready for next week. Have a Happy New Year and see you in 2010!
